History

Lambda was initially founded in 2012 as Lambda Labs1, working on applications of computer vision and building custom hardware for machine learning on the edge, including the Lambda Hat2. Having built an internal GPU cloud to serve their own use cases, they started selling GPU workstations and servers, and opened their GPU cloud to external customers in 20173. They have been a regular sponsor of machine learning conferences (including NeurIPS4) since at least 2018, and provide compute grants to researchers5.
